We in KAINO think that sustainability means respecting the wellbeing of humans, animals and environment in all steps of our production. The complete certificates of our yarns as well as the local scale knitting and sewing room in Finland guarantee that all KAINO knitwear are always sustainable produced. LONG LASTING GARMENT IS A SUSTAINABLE CHOICE

We think that high quality natural materials are the best available choice for garments, for both sustainability and ease of use. The materials of our knitwear are organic combed cotton with long fibers and soft merino wool. KAINO knitwear are long lasting by both look and quality.  

SMALL AND BIG ACTIONS BEHING THE PROMISES

• Our design and production always considers that all the knitted material can be used as efficiently as possible. Left over material is used to create small KAINO items.
   
• KAINO production is not producing any waste: all the small parts and textile waste are collected and recycled by the company, which is using our waste to produce felt and irrigation mats for green houses.
   
• We ourselves produce all our products based on the real demand and all our knitwear are sold.
   
• We pack our products to recycled paper bags and cardboard packaging. We use recycled boxes to send products to retailers.
   
• We always order our info materials like price tags and KAINO labels as well as printed materials from local companies.
   
• Our products or yarns we use are not treated in any production phase with toxic chemicals or harmful substances. Thus, there is no need to wash them before use.
   
• We prepare our knitwear of yarns with GOTS-, OEKO-TEX® STeP-, Bluesign®- and NATURTEXTIL BEST –certificates, which guarantee that the whole production chain is free of harmful substances, environmentally friendly and the working conditions are safe and responsible. • The wellbeing of animals is important for us. Thus, our wool is always mulesing free, meaning that the animals are not cutted to avoid insect pests.
   
• Our own local Finnish production guarantees good working conditions, nice working environment and decent salary for our employees. Keeping the production in Finland is an ethic choice as such.
   
• The high quality of our products and knits is a matter of heart for us. The product of high quality is worth of repairing and will last recycling from one user to another. We also repair and service our customers KAINO knits. This repair service will also be available to purchase on our online store in the near future.
   
• In the future we hope new finnish innovations in textile industry will produce even more sustainable and chemical-free yarns for us to use.

ORGANIC COMBED COTTON

All KAINO Cotton Knits are made of Organic Combed Cotton yarns. The Fibre in Combed Cotton is long and its quality is superior to average cotton. Our Organic Combed Cotton yarns comes from Germany, factory of Gebrueder Otto. Organic Combed Cotton is grown in India and Turkey. KAINO Organic Combed Cotton yarns has following certifications:

GOTS

The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is recognised as the world's leading processing standard for textiles made from organic fibres. It defines high-level environmental criteria along the entire organic textiles supply chain and requires compliance with social criteria as well. All chemical inputs such as dyestuffs and auxiliaries used must meet certain environmental and toxicological criteria. The choice of accessories is limited in accordance with ecological aspects as well. A functional waste water treatment plant is mandatory for any wet-processing unit involved and all processors must comply with social criteria.

OEKO-TEX® STeP

The objective of STeP (Sustainable Textile Production) certification is the permanent implementation of environmentally friendly production processes, optimum health and safety and socially acceptable working conditions. Through modular analysis of all relevant company areas such as management of chemicals, environmental performance, environmental management, occupational health and safety, social responsibility and quality management, the STeP certification allows a comprehensive and reliable analysis of the extent of sustainable management provided by a production facility.

MERINOWOOL

All KAINO Merino wool products are knitted of a high quality and soft Merino wool yarn. The fibre in Merino wool is very long, thin and soft, and it doesn't itch. The yarns are made and dyed in Austrian Schoeller factory. Merino sheeps grow in South Africa and New Zealand. The Merino wool used in KAINO Knits has following features and certifications:
